The research project 'Feasibility study: Database on homelessness and precarious housing' aims at identifying existing data sources on the extent and profile of homelessness in Austria and its nine federal provinces. In addition, data sources were examined regarding data quality and suitability for an Austrian homelessness monitoring, in order to make suggestions for expanding the current database and for designing new data collection methods. Based on extensive literature research, interviews with experts, and workshops with stakeholders, we identified data sources at national, federal province, and organisational level and recommended their combination in a multi-method design. Finally, we suggested three models for a nationwide monitoring regime on the extent and profile of homelessness and precarious housing that take the federal structure of the Austrian state into account.
